Coaching it

How to get more from these practices.

Lots of shots

Players get better at finishing by finishing. Good finishing practices keep queues short so every player shoots often.

Game-like chances

Recreate the chances players actually get: a cut-back, a ball across the six-yard box, a shot after a turn.

Coach the run as well as the strike

Many goals come from the movement before the shot. Coach the timing of the run as well as the technique.

Questions

What coaches ask.

How do you improve finishing in football?
Give players many shots from game-like positions, coach the movement before the shot as well as the strike, and add a defender or time limit once the technique is in place.
