Coaching this age group
U18 is the bridge year — the last stage before senior football, whichever door a player walks through next: professional, college, or adult grassroots. TouchTight's U18 library is built for that transition. Sessions assume adult-game physicality and speed of play, and lean hard into tactical maturity: multiple defensive and attacking structures, rest-defence principles, game-state management (what changes at 1-0 up with twenty minutes left versus 1-0 down). Leadership becomes a coaching theme in its own right — organising a back line under pressure, communicating a press trigger to four teammates, taking ownership of a game plan rather than just executing one. Practices are less forgiving than at younger ages by design: higher tempo, tighter time and space constraints, real consequences for a lost first touch. Coaches also get sessions aimed squarely at pathway decisions — showcase-style practices that put a player's game in a realistic, competitive picture for scouts or college recruiters, and conditioning-through-the-ball sessions that prepare players for the physical step up to senior football, wherever that step happens to land them.
