Coaching this age group

At U8, the session is the sport. Kids this age haven't developed the attention span or the physical literacy for anything but small-sided, ball-heavy, constantly-moving practices — so the coaching job is less "teach tactics" and more "make touches happen, over and over, with a smile on." TouchTight's U8 library leans into that: rondos sized for four or five players, 1v1 games with a goal on each end, relay-style ball-mastery circuits, and small-sided matches (3v3, 4v4) with no throw-ins, no offsides, no standing around. Every practice is built to maximise ball contacts per player per minute, not to run a perfect shape. Coaches get short, high-energy sessions — fifteen to twenty minutes per activity, easy to explain in one sentence, easy to reset when a game breaks down. Parents on the sideline see kids laughing and chasing the ball, which is exactly the point at this age; the technical foundation (first touch, changes of direction, comfort on both feet) gets built inside the fun, not instead of it.

What's in the U8 library

Ball mastery circuits

Individual-ball warm-ups and relay games that rack up touches before the session even starts.

1v1 to 4v4 small-sided games

No positions, no offside — just games sized so every player is always close to the ball.

Fun finishing games

Shooting and dribbling games with a scoreboard element, built for short attention spans.

Coordination & agility

Cone-and-ladder style movement games, dressed up as play rather than drilling.
