U12 Soccer Drills

This page displays the latest U12 soccer drills suitable for players entering the Youth Phase. After the technical skills developed in the Foundation Phase, a similar emphasis is put on the player's tactical development. We include Technical Soccer Drills, Small Sided Games, and Opposed Skill practices in this curriculum.

U12 Soccer Practices

Coaching soccer players aged 12 and under requires a carefully planned training program that is both challenging and enjoyable for players. Here are some of the best soccer drills for players in this age group:

Dribbling and ball control drills: These drills should focus on helping players develop their dribbling and ball control skills, as well as their agility and coordination. Examples include the "dribbling through cones" drill, the "dribbling in a small grid" drill, and the "dribbling through obstacles" drill.

Passing and receiving drills: These drills should help players develop their passing and receiving skills, as well as their ability to move off the ball and find space. Examples include the "pass and move" drill, the "one-touch passing" drill, and the "passing and receiving in small groups" drill.

Finishing drills: These drills should focus on helping players improve their shooting and finishing skills, as well as their ability to create space and get a shot off under pressure. Examples include the "shooting on goal" drill, the "finishing with a defender" drill, and the "shooting from different angles" drill.

Small-sided games: Small-sided games are an excellent way to help players develop their skills in a game-like setting. These games should be designed to simulate real game situations and should help players develop their technical, tactical, and physical skills. Examples include 3v3 games, 4v4 games, and 5v5 games.

Possession and transition drills: These drills should focus on helping players develop their ability to maintain possession of the ball and transition from defense to attack. Examples include the "possession and transition" drill, the "counter-attacking" drill, and the "transition to attack" drill.

Defending drills: These drills should help players develop their ability to defend effectively as a team. Examples include the "1v1 defending" drill, the "team defending" drill, and the "defending set pieces" drill.

Overall, it is important to vary your drills and practices and include a mix of technical, tactical, and physical exercises to help players develop their skills and improve their performance on the soccer field. By incorporating a variety of drills and practices into your training program, you can help your players become more skilled, confident, and successful on the soccer field.
