This foundation phase practice takes place in a 20 by 20-yard area and is a fun activity with two teams competing against each other at hand ball. Players must use their hands to pass and catch the ball and can move a couple of steps when in possession of the ball.
Teammates must move into space to receive a pass and to help their team progress up the field. Players use their feet to finish first time on the volley after being set up by a teammates thrown pass.
If the ball goes out of play or is dropped on to the ground, a turnover of possession takes place. The team with the most goals after the set period is the winner!
Key Coaching Points:
Awareness of teammates positions on the field. Off-the-ball movement to be in space for goal-scoring opportunities.
The player in possession must stay stationery and can only move once they have released the ball.
How can you support your teammates in possession (Off-the-ball) ?
