How it's set up
This wave practice takes place in a 20 by 25-yard area and focuses on developing teams ability to press as a unit, win possession and counter. We setup by splitting players into four groups of three players each, with a goal and goalkeeper on each end. To begin, one team will start with possession while the other team start as the defenders, whose objective is to press high and win possession. If the defenders win possession, they can counter attack and finish past the goalkeeper. The initial defending team will switch out after every round, with the initial attacking team becoming the defending team. Maintain a good flow throughout, with teams quickly transitioning from attacking to defending. Change the groups of three players to provide a new challenge every few rounds.
