How it's set up

Setup: This practice takes place on a 60 by 40-yard 7v7 pitch, divided into thirds to help defenders maintain their shape. The Reds begin in a 2-3-1 formation, building play from the goalkeeper, while the Blues organise as a back four. Objective: The focus is on defensive cohesion, with the back four staying compact, minimising gaps, and reacting to different attacking structures. Defenders must shift as a unit between the zones, ensuring they close gaps for the attackers to penetrate. Success is measured by winning possession and transitioning quickly to score in the opposite goal

  2. Adjust to Opponent’s Shape – Drop the striker into a block if a centre-back pushes into midfield.
  3. Defend on the Inside Shoulder – Block passing lanes and prevent split passes by positioning inside.
