How it's set up

This medium sided game is part of our 321 series for 7 v 7 play, focusing on phase 2: playing through midfield to exploit a central overload. Set in a 60 by 40-yard area, it uses a 15-yard middle zone to emphasise the overload and lock players into specific positions, clarifying roles for those around them. The initial structure creates a 4 v 3 in the defensive third (with a goalkeeper), a 2 v 1 in midfield, and a 1 v 2 in attack. Players work on progressing through the thirds by connecting with free midfielders, adapting to different pressing scenarios. Once the pass is played into the final third, the two midfielders can support, creating a 3 v 2 attacking overload. Once a goal is scored, play resets with the primary coaching teams (Red) GK. If the defenders win possession, they can break out to counter.
