How it's set up
This phase of play practice takes place in a 30 by 25-yard area, focusing on structured build-up play to break the opposition’s press and create goal-scoring opportunities. The exercise begins with the attacking team’s goalkeeper, who looks to progress play through controlled passing sequences. The team must combine effectively, working the ball through the central striker before setting up a finish from wide areas (6 yard zones) in either of the two mini goals. If the defenders win possession, they can counter and look to finish past the goalkeeper.
Key coaching points
- If the striker presses the GK directly - use the CB to play out
- If the striker presses the GK from the CB’s Side - use the CDM bounce pass
- Midfielders and neutral striker must adjust positioning to offer passing options
