How it's set up

This simple activation practice focuses on developing players' scanning ability when receiving and driving with the ball. Set up mannequins, mini goals, and cones as shown in the session image, with two players working at a time. One player acts as the receiver (Red 8), and the other as the defender (Gold 4). The receiver moves forward to receive a pass from the coach, with the defender following behind. As the coach passes the ball, the receiver must scan to see which direction the defender has committed to and then drive the ball around the opposite mannequin to finish in any of the mini goals. In the next round, the defender becomes the receiver, and a new player from the Red team (e.g., Red 4) takes on the role of the defender.
