How it's set up
This pattern of play practice takes place in a full half of a pitch and focuses on developing rotations, combinations and deliveries to finish. We setup by placing 5 mannequins as shown in the session image, with players starting on each. We will work one side at a time. To begin, one midfielder with the ball (4) will pass forward to the attacking midfield (8) who sets it back for the other midfielder (6). While this is happening, two attackers (10 and 7) will rotate positions, before the midfielder plays a penetrating pass to the wide player to receive in the wide channel. Two attackers (8 and 7) will make crossover runs in the box and attack the wide delivery to finish. Work the next side once the attack ends.
Key coaching points
- Well weighted and accurate passes out wide
- Timing movements in behind (stay onside)
